Having a bit of a debate with the guild mages. They seem to think that even with only having 2 of them in the raid requires COE for boss fights. They argue that even though their DPS boost from COE is lower than what the warlock could get from doom or agony, that the spell penitration makes it worth using. I searched the topics here but didn't see anything like this, apologies if I missed it.

Better idea:

Shut the fuck up.

I'd say it's your call on CoE, as long as another lock is on CoS, with only 2 mages it's sort of a toss up.

Do what I used do and just assign 2 locks to CoE / CoS before someone assigns it to you. Assuming you have at least 3 locks in the raid.

Curse of doom/agony is a 10% dps increase for locks...? Either way, 10% for two people > 10% for one person.

Not many bosses have innate resistances to certain schools, that I know of, so I imagine the spell penetration argument is irrelevent. The flat % boost to their damage though could easily be figured out with any damage meter mod to be either more or less than an agony or doom from yourself.

Thanks for the replies. We had already ran the numbers and curse of doom wins with just 2 mages (even calculating 10% more immolate damage from warlocks).

3 mages makes it a no brainer. My only concern was that one of the mages brought up the spell penitration bonus off CoE and I honestly didn't know if that made it worth using.

Are you sure? Agony/Doom shouldn't be that huge of a damage increase to be more than the increase two mages will see + immolates.

Either your mages suck(a lot) or your math is wrong. Put up CoE and stop being a DPS whore.

Completely agree with Lambach.

Just by doing some quick math assuming 2 mages hit for 1700 with Fireball with 30% crit rate

Your CoD or CoA would have to do roughly 9k dmg to make it reasonable for you to choose it over CoE.

Keep in mind that 1700 is probably a pretty weak fireball for a mage with epics since its what my mage in all blues hits for. Also the above estimate doesnt account for the 20% dmg increase that fire mages get when the boss is below 20%.

to summarize:

"Put up CoE and stop being a DPS whore." -lambach
