was wondering how to exactly analyze which build would give greater raid dps. - combat maces with dragon strike/s2 of or combat swords with s2 mh/of. the added haste rating of dragonstrike 221 for 10 seconds, would increase weapon speed by ~14% when it procs increasing the mh/oh dps from 97 to 113. not sure how much this procs and how it compares to giving up the extra attack from the sword spec. according to elitistjerks combat maces is 3% lower dps than combat swords, but the proc on that weapon increases dps by 16%. so everything really hinges on the proc rate i would guess. chris can you breakdown what you think the relative dps would be for the two builds assuming normal raid buffs. thanks, appreciate it.

think i answered it myself, would like your thoughts. didn't do any hard testing just kluged together data i found.

dragonstrike is a great weapon (shadowpanther rankings), but it will not overcome the 3% dps disadadvantage of combat maces (elitist jerks). let's assume we are comparing dragonstike/s2 to s2 swords so we are comparing apples to apples and just discussing the dps gain from the haste proc. on the forums it says that dragonstrike procs about 1 time every 1.5mins (easy enough to check with an addon). in a 5 minute boss fight this means that it will proc for 30 seconds of the 300 seconds or 10% of the total time. when it procs it increases your weapon speed by 14% (212/15.7) and dps by 16% (97 to 113). this means that dps goes up by 16% for 10% of the time or 1.6%. this leaves you 1.4% short of combat swords and .9% of combat daggers (which are only .5% behind swords).

Yeah, busy killing mobs in TK right now. (Don't ask me why we still do TK) From what I remember, because of the internal cool-down, the proc doesn't overcome the DPS loss, as you just worked out.

Swords are going to be dominant at equal gear level for at least the remainder of this expansion. I'd like to see this change for WotLK, but its going to take some mechanic changes.

Not until 2.4 are all attunements abolished.

Still need the key to enter Karazhan...or have someone open the door for you. How lame is that?

thanks for the quick response. we are doing our bt/mh attunement right now. hopefully 2.4 comes out quick. i think everyone who completes the hyjal attunement after the patch gets the "hand of a'dal" title.

I expect the patch next week. Of course, part of that is me being tired of the current content/wishful thinking, but I'm pretty sure its coming then.
