Well i'm looking to build a new rig too.

I'm not sure if i should wait a couple months until Q2/Q3 for the new stuff shown at the Cebit a couple weeks ago or build it now.

I'm currently using:

-1.8 ghz core 2 duo
-Gainward 8600 GT
-2 GB Kingston RAM at 400mhz (not sure though, will update)
-550 Watt Power Supply

I'll need:

-Processor
-GPU x2 since i'm planning for the future with SLI/Crossfire
-Mainboard
-Power Supply

I'm rather looking for a decent rig to play high resolution DX10+ Games "for the next couple years".

I've got 2 Monitors,enough HD space for bluray videos,etc.

I hear the G92's are "cheap" now overseas,300-350$?!

Also does anyone of you guys know about a onlinestore that ships overseas and is very convenient, because ATM it is very lucrative (does that word even exist in english?) to buy electronics in the US.

Thanks in advance.

edit:I'm not sure about the budget yet.But around 2000-2500$.

lucrative does exist.

Wish I could help with the rest. I would wait for newer stuff, at the very least it'll depress the price of the current stuff.

wait, nvidia is releasing their 9800 series over the next 2 months and and it will push thier prices on the 8800 series cards down which would be /win for you since they are basically the same thing

there are also new intel chips coming out in the next few weeks so prices on on those will be going down as well. so its probably best to wait on the processor as well

Motherboards are pretty relative though and wont change a whole lot. Boomzzz and i can vouch for our xfx/evga 780i motherboards (samething considering they are all made by foxconn)

most people are happy with ddr2-800 but that motherboard will support up to ddr2-1066, its totally up to you how much you want to spend

of the major PSU's i like the Thermal take Toughpower the best, i have the 850w and it should be enough to power what your considering, and with its huge slow turning fan its fairly quiet

just my two cents

One 9800 GPU has been released at March 18th.Still i guess i'll necro this thread in a couple weeks. Will give me some time to gather some more $$$ to get crazy with.

some people are even saying wait until end of 08 for the nephalem chips from intel. They are a completely new chipset (no longer 775), so you will lose your ability to do upgrades without it.

Personally, I am going to build in the summer, since the new chips will be expensive as fuck.

Yes, please spend your money on Intel products.

the 8 cores are gonna be sick, but probably not worth the cash to be an early adopter, other thing to consider is that there is always something way better coming out so if you want to do something, do it, dont worry about the next product that is coming,

Has AMD made anything significant since the beginning of this year?

Well I just upgraded my computer about two months ago and heres what I got and how much it cost all together. All prices are from newegg.com as you can tell.

Motherboard: Abit IP35 Pro. [$170]
-Not only is this the best motherboard out of 4 that I have used, but it supports everything that is needed for building a very nice, and relatively cheap, system. It supports SLi, RAID 0 (2 hard drives working as one, creating extremly fast loading times), and up to a quadcore for CPU's. The heat sinks on it are amazing as well, I haven't once had a problem with the cooling on it yet.

Graphics Card: Nvidea 8800 GTX (x2) [$828 ($414 x 2)]
-Not only is this one of the best cards on the market right now (in my opinion, but I haven't checked for one in the last 2 months) but it can be overclocked like a beast, and never seem to overheat when doing it correctly. Theres nothing more to say then that two of these runs Crysis at around 60-80 FPS constant in and out of battles.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad q6600 @ 2.4 GHZ [$250]
-Some people have things against Intel and gaming but personally, coming from an Intel user myself and using this quadcore you cant go wrong. It runs anything smoother then cutting a knife through butter and hasn't failed me yet. Not only is it amazingly quick, but its amazingly cheap as well. Coming in at only $250 you can't really beat it.

RAM: Crucial Ballistix 4gb (2gb x2) DDR2 800 [$109]
-Possibly my favorite piece on the list right now, not only because of how incredibly cheap it is, but also because of how well it runs too. For only paying $109 you REALLY get the bang for you buck on this one. The cooling sinks on the sides are perfect for overclocking (+ the cooling gel that comes seperate). It overclocks like a champion too, and doesn't seem to studder at all when faced with any games like Crysis in Very High settings or CoD 4 with Very High as well.

All in all you can't really go wrong with what I posted tbh. There could be better but right now this will work just fine for the next 2 years (Hopefully). And like I said before, I run Crysis (Which is the performance check for video game graphics) at around 60-80 FPS constant without stuttering at all. Now there might be better pieces out there, but as far as cost goes this works just fine. You could even switch the GTX's with the GTS and just overclock them to run like a GTX, I heard that works just as well. And cheaper too.

Total Cost: $1357

*Edit* Gah.. shit, I completely forgot you lived in europe. Sorry, but I guess you get the point about the descriptions of the parts.

I'd say wait a bit, more of the 9 series Nvidia cards will be available by then and making the price of the 8 series go down even more. New cpu technologies are on the way too from Intel, just not too sure of the time range for the release of the said new hardware (8 core and the new 45nm hafnium based cpu), which again will make the price on the current stuff drop some more if you cant afford the new shit. AMD really isnt an option imo, Phenom aint got shit on quad core and even their new CrossfireX cant compete with SLI. Who in their right mind would go for ATI cards anyway...

Thanks,Fireworks. That's a pretty nice deal you got there.

I guess i'll wait for a couple 9800's to come out,for the 8800s to drop.

And what wuincy said.IT Business is way too fast.
