Any good RTS games out there right now besides Starcraft/Warcraft 3? Been bored with my 360 lately, and I'm looking for something to play on my computer that isn't too demanding. My set up is decent (2.13 ghz dual core, 2 gb ram, GeForce 7900 GS), so if theres anything you guys would reccomend go for it.

Edit: Anyone out there play the Dawn of War games? I've been looking at those a bit and they seem decent.

Um yea, basically the product of sitting at home with nothing to do on a Sunday evening. Picking up GTA IV for sure, just need something to do for the next few days/downtime from the 360.

Haha, yea. No chance my computer would run Crysis, and I play cod4 on 360...same boat as you. Bored out of my mind with it atm. I'll just hold out one more day for GTA IV.

Supreme Commander is supposed to be cool too. Unless you feel like conquering a learning curve much larger then EVE Online I don't suggest buying it. Although managing "tiny" armies of over 300+ is fun, its not easy to do, neither is getting to that point. Most 2v2+ games are > 1 hour and most of the time end ot someone losing connection or you being disconnected from the server. And you might end up lagging anyways because the game requires a hefty amount of power from your CPU

Although you say something other then SC/WC3 Dota is one hell of a game to waste time on. Other then that you can try the Command and Conquer games, the new one isn't too bad.

Yeah the new Warhammer RTS is pretty good. I didn't really have the time to dedicate to it to play it well with the raiding I've been doing recently but it's fun for at least a day or 2 if that's all you're looking for.

There are plenty of free 2 level demos or w/e floating around if you want to play before you buy/dl.

Sins is ok, game length can be very long and you can't really do anything about capital ships early game which means the games will last a certain length regardless of what you do.

DoW was lol imba last time I played, maybe they fixed it?

I don't know what you're talking about.Check for yourself.Only thing i can tell for sure that i like Soulstorm.Having 9 playable races is a plus for me.

9 playable races = shit balance, warcraft3 isn't balanced with 4 (after how many years after its release?). Then again, last time I played seriously was after the first expansion, when the balance was messed up, maybe (seriously unlikely) they fixed it.

RTS games' real value comes from the online multiplayer and a competitive ladder/scene and when a large amount of losing comes from strictly match ups, its not fun at all to know that you lost despite outplaying the other guy. Just like in any team based game where you lose because one of your teammates have downs.

Dota is where it's at still, except some games just get completely ruined by 12 year olds who feel that they lose the game after taking first blood or dying early and end up leaving the game.

Even DotA, where I played competitively, is not balanced, the reason why top teams are top teams is because their understanding of the game > the average players, and this shows up in their hero picks and lanes. Still though, amusing that DotA has the same community as War3 (if not more) these days.

Impulsive are you talking about the ladder games of War3? But yeah your right though, the game isn't based on how well you can mash buttons (for the most part) its based off your understanding and knowledge of the game. Most hero combos can not be beaten but by only maybe one hero setup, others completely suck with each other.

I have Warhammer 40K Dawn of War Platinum edition this includes the original game and the first two expansions. It's a pretty cool game, the only thing I do not like is that it doesn't fully support wide screen monitors. Also the text is really blurry for some odd reason. Warcraft 3 didn't support wide screen monitors either but it scales itself to fit.

Another cool game to check out is Company of Heroes which is made by the same group that created the Dawn of War games. It's a WWII based RTS game.

War3 supports full widescreen, I play on 1440x900 setting, you need to tweek the registry to get it to whatever widescreen res you are using. Just google it. Dunno if Warhammer can.

CoH is definitely worth it though, I liked Axis and Allies too. Change of pace and squad based combat is always nice.

CoH can rape your computer though. The explosions look so beautiful in Vista though. Yay DX10 fire/smoke

From what I've been told it doesn't natively support it, like most older Blizzard games the resolution is set to a default. However if you edit in the registry it will scale (distort) the image to fit your resolution. There is some video card setting that automatically does it. I have not changed any registry settings and my WC3 resolution is scaled to fit my widescreen monitor. I know Warhammer does not. It gives you the option for various wide screen resolutions but when you actually select them none of them scale properly, most of the time I leaves bars on the sides of your screen and the text is always unreadable.

Eh, it scales perfectly on my monitor, no black lines or distortions. So I know for a fact though that WC3 registry fix works to get it in perfect WS mode.
