Gasol was simply traded to fill the whole Bynum left. Shaq gave the Suns a big man that they needed for the playoffs, and changed how the Suns played since small ball doesn't do as well in the playoffs. Atleast, that's how the trade was supposed to work, being malowned by the Spurs poked a gaping hole in that idea.

Re: So. . . Lakers will win everything.
Yeah, Lakers - Celtics would be a fun as hell series. Too bad the Hawks got roflstomped today, but they had a good run. As has been pointed out, they're super young. I think Bibby's the oldest guy on the team and he's 29. We need to have Marvin play for the Falcons. That was a helluva tackle he put on Rondo lol. Anyway, enough Hawks talk. Just saw a lot of Atlanta peeps in this thread and gotta represent!
Eh...go Lakers! =D | |

Look at the stats. I guarantee the Suns would rather have had Gasol for what they traded then Shaq.
The Suns knew Shaq wouldn't get them the 25 and 10 like he used to, but it was as much about getting a serviceable big man as getting rid of Marion.
Shaq is no more than an average center now. The Suns knew that and they expected it. Shaq knows it. It was a big trade based on name alone, not quality.

Re: So. . . Lakers will win everything.
That is totally incorrect Tactical. Lakers knew that they were missing a piece, and a piece was holding em back, ie kwame. For you to make a statement that this wasn't a big trade is ludicrous, cause lakers went from #8 to #1 in the most competitive conference in NBA history. Gasol trade put pressure on teams like phoenix and mavs, and forced em into making bad decisions for quick results, however phoenix was stupid in thinking that by adding Shaq, they could change the heart of a perennial loser.
Concerning Lakers vs. Utah, it will be Lakers in 6, Utah had the best home record, and they will get 2 games, but they suck on road, so over in 6.
Also don't count out Spurs, Ducan had the worst playoff game since 1999, that wont happen again, they will win in 6-7 vs NO.
Lakers vs Spurs will be interesting, it will go to 7, and whoever comes outa that alive will beat the crap from east.
Yes thats right, I think celtics/detroit are crap teams, the only reason anyone felt that celtics would win was due amount of rest they would get compared to western teams, and that obviously wont happen since an under 40 win team took em to 7 games, and Cleveland will take em to 6 games, and probably Detroit will win or lose in 7. P.S KG sucks, theres a reason why him and Ducan have been in league for same amt of time, and 1 guy has 4 rings, and other has 0. KG puts up great numbers first 3 quarters, and disappears like t-mac in 4th quarter, and this year will show how much of a disappointment he is since his stacked team will lose.
So in the end Spurs or Lakers will beat the joke that is eastern conference.
NBA should fix that crap, it should be #8 from west vs #1 from east, and vice versa.

Los Angeles is awesome when the Lakers get deep into the playoffs. Banners everywhere, those flags on cars, etc.
I guess it's probably like that everywhere, but it's fun.

TBF, KG would probably have one ring if injuries didnt rape his Twolves team (the one time they went deep in the playoffs).
Celtics have done well against the West, they're a good team, Rondo the supposed weak point looks very solid. His next test won't be until Detroit ( the only team left in the East with a solid point guard).

Lakers will sweep Utah, then beat NO 4-2 then beat Boston in 7.

| Celtics have done well against western team cause most of em don't try till its playoff time, where as it seems vice versa for the celtics. | |

...You're kidding me right? Like any of the Western conference teams this year could have afforded to drop a few games because they didn't feel like trying.
If Denver won just one more game, they would have avoided the Lakers (not that it would be much better against the Hornets).
And I don't know why people keep making a big deal out of the Celtics struggling in the first round like they're exposed or something when the last Champion of the East, the Miami Heat struggled against a young Bulls team in their opening series.
